Activity: Visit to recycling plant

Thuesday: 22 November 2016

The aim of this activity was to see what happens to our waste after we have separated it and how valuable rubbish can be.The group went around Europe’s biggest recycling plant REMONDIS in Lünen in two buses and saw the different buildings in which items like plastic or electrical waste are recycled. The group listened to a lot of explanations how the items they saw were recycled inside the buildings. Especially interesting for the group was the production of gypsum, which REMONDIS gets from the desulphurization of flue gas from power plants which are heated by fossil fuels.

At the end of the guided tour the group visited the exhibition about waste and how it is recycled at REMONDIS and listened to some explanation by one of the employees there.
