Veurne is a city and municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders.

Veurne, is a nice city, not far from the Belgium coast. It's a town with 11,500 inhabitants, with nice streets and nice houses.

The town of Veurne has been built around a fortress at the end of the 9th century. It used to be one of the best fortified places in the earldom of Flanders.

Annuntiata-instituut is a vocational and technical secondary school which is situated in Veurne, a small town nearby the Flemish coast and the French border. Veurne lies in a rural area and a lot of pupils have to travel a fairly large distance to school. Annuntiata is a free catholic school. There are about 650 pupils and 90 teachers (not all of them full-time teachers). Pupils are between 12 and 19 years old and are able to follow their whole secondary education in the school. The Principal of the school is Mrs. Rita Willaert.




Students can choose out of 4 courses: business, fashion, sciences and human care. Except for sciences, these courses are organized on a technical and vocational level.

After the 6th form vocational pupils can specialize for one more year in the following courses: Care for the elderly, child care, shopkeeping and windowdressing, office-administration.
In every course pupils are offered some general subjects like religion, Dutch (mother tongue), foreign languages (French and English), history, geography, physical education. Next to these, students get specific subjects depending on the course they follow.


For the general subjects pupils are taught in common class-rooms. For specific subjects there are special class-rooms. As such Annuntiata has several IT-rooms, laboratories, kitchen-rooms, care-rooms etc. There is also a gym.


School starts at the beginning of September and ends at the end of June. During this period there are Christmas and Easter holidays (two weeks) and autumn and spring holidays (one week).
In Annuntiata lessons start at 8.30. There is a break from 10.10 till 10.20. Then there are classes again till 12.05. The lunch break lasts till 13.00 Then there are lessons again till 14.50 and a small break. The last period is from 15.00 till 15.50 or 16.40. Normally, when the pupils arrive at home, they still have to do some homework or study for one or other test.
