#Create collaboratively  #Teach Locally   #Share Globally  #Act Sustainably

is a two year Erasmus+/KA2 school project running 2014-2016.  Erasmus+ is an EU programme for education, training, youth and sport.

Partners: Belgium (Veurne), Germany (Brakel), Greece (Patras), Spain (Barcelona)

Coordinator: Spain

How we started: A proposal was launched on eTwinning by the Belgian partner to do a project to develop basic and transversal skills using innovative methods with as central theme ‘sustainability’ . The partners which were chosen were the ones who already had concrete ideas about this.

During a preparatory meeting in Germany from 11 till 14 February 2015 the partners learned to know each other and hard work was done: tasks, responsibilities, project meetings and learning mobility for each partner were agreed upon, the coordinator was chosen, a list of appropriate activities and outcomes and a suitable timetable was made.

The title of our project is really clear and sends out a strong message about the main objectives of the project.

Create_ collaboratively: As teachers we will make our pupils aware and think of the importance of being a sustainable citizen. During this part of the project, we will mainly focus on four major issues water, food, waste and energy. Our students will analyze their actual environmental behaviour and their possibilities to improve it over time to reevaluate the effect of their personal behaviour on a European/global level towards our next objective: to teach and transfer locally all their knowledge to younger kids. We will analyze and create activities to answer questions like: Will we have to live sustainably with a more active participation in society by improving the awareness of environmental issues? How can I save energy? How can I save water? What can I do to avoid too much garbage?

Teach Locally: After thinking and creating in a cooperative level, our pupils will experience the importance of working locally, teaching younger kids from four different countries with different backgrounds and social interests. This part of the project focuses on using foreign languages, making connections, seeing patterns, understanding the subjects and transferring their learning to others. As teachers we will discuss their actions and improve their communication skills. During the four planned meetings, we will basically test their own activities created with younger kids from the host school.

Share Globally: In the end, all the output created will be shared globally. Our pupils will improve their digital skills. ICT tools and the use of open practices will allow an increase in the effectiveness of education, allowing for more personalised learning, a better learning experience and an improved use of resources.

Act Sustainably: We strongly believe that the use of teaching through thinking, creating and sharing could definitely improve our pupils self concept, resulting in a positive impact on learning and also make the low-achieving pupils believe that they can be successful learners. And as a second level of achievement, no matter how small our contribution with our project may be, we still think it is more than worthwhile to make our students, teachers and local communities aware of adopting a more sustainable way of life, trying to cut on energy and avoiding waste as much as possible.

Core Outputs

O1 - Website

O2 - e-book: collection of CLIL exercises designed to teach younger kids about food, waste, water and energy from a sustainable point of view

O3 - Youtube videos “Tips to be sustainable” collection channel: a collection of all the 20-30 seconds video tips.
